Peel, one could argue, was the scapegoat for a league-wide problem that has not been solved since his departure. Peel and Kelly Sutherland were the referees that were officiating this game, and Peel was the one that called the penalty on Arvidsson. Penalty calling has long been a bone of contention in the NHL, with many fans (including this writer) begging for a fairly called game rather than one that sees both sides get roughly equal calls. While league officials hoped that would settle the matter, Peel’s admission opened the flood gates to discussion among fans, players and analysts. The NHL launched an investigation into the game and announced a few days later that Peel would never work in the league again. Minutes later, Nashville’s broadcast picked up audio of the referee saying, “it wasn’t much, but I wanted to get a f-ing penalty against Nashville early.” With 12:42 remaining in the second period, the Nashville broadcast captured audio from Peel saying 'it wasnt much, but I wanted to get a f-ing. Peel called the penalty, despite Merrill flagrantly embellishing his fall to draw the call. Peel made the penalty call from around center ice. Early in the second period, Predators forward Viktor Arvidsson was called for tripping Detroit defenseman Jon Merrill. On March 22, 2021, in a matchup between the Nashville Predators, a microphone overheard Peel saying he wanted to give the Predators a penalty. Tim Peel’s career as an NHL referee is over after his voice was picked up by a TV microphone saying he wanted to call a penalty against the Nashville Predators.

If you have a CS5.5 license, this option will cost you more after only 5 months and an older upgradeable license will do so during month 13. If you qualify for an upgrade, this is really the worst of your options. Pros: Best for cash flow during the first year.Ĭons: More expensive than either straight upgrade. Upgrade to a 1 year contract for Creative Cloud and pay $29.99/month for the first year. While that bumps you over to option 2, you're not committing to until later and until then have the least sunk costs if you decide to switch to a competitors offering. If you've got a stable business and don't need other tools from Adobe, this approach is cheap and as long as there isn't a penalty for skipping versions you can upgrade when something compelling comes along. Pros: Cheapest over time if you do not qualify for an upgrade. If the case can be made, then this is your best option. The business case to upgrade gets easier as the feature gap between your existing license and CS6 gets wider. Pros: Cheapest over time if you do not have CS5.5 Upgrade from Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, CS4, CS3, 2.x, or 1.x Adobe Premiere or Encore DVD 2.0 for $299. If you can make a business case for the upgrade and you have a CS5.5 license, then this is your best bet to get CS6. Use Creative Cloud on a month to month basis paying $74.99/month.Ĭons: Costs are front loaded and may need to be planned for to avoid cash flow problems. Sign a 1 year contract for Creative Cloud and pay $49.99/month. With that in mind, here are your options. Licensing one of the CS6 Suites does not make any sense if you only need Premiere Pro. You're probably an independent editor relying on other independents to handle tasks your NLE is not able to take on itself. You eat, sleep and otherwise live in your NLE and have no need to venture into other areas of the post production world. Premiere Pro Is The One Application For You we're at the beginning and not midway through the product lifecycle. For the purposes of these scenarios, we will assume that the purchase decision is to be taken today - ie. In order to decide what makes the most sense for you to license the needed Adobe software, we'll consider a some different scenarios and see how the costs break down. Put another way, Adobe is not currently providing any incentive for customers to upgrade each year, but then again, they aren't bound to continue with this pricing strategy for future releases either. For example, upgrading Premiere Pro from CS5 to CS6 will cost $299 versus $149 for upgrading from CS5.5 to CS6. The current upgrade pricing within the products does not penalize customers for skipping a version and upgrading later. The Master Suite, included as its applications are made available with a Creative Cloud subscription, builds on the Production Premium Suite by adding applications for web design (Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks) and print design (InDesign). With the suites, the Production Premium Suite is the smallest of the to offer both Premiere Pro and After Effects. Premiere Pro and After Effects are the two applications that are of most interest to video editors. The table above shows the pricing for Premiere Pro, After Effects, the Production Premium Suite, the Master Suite and Creative Cloud. $299 Upgrade from Adobe Premiere Pro CS5, CS4, CS3, 2.x, or 1.x Adobe Premiere or Encore DVD 2.0 ![]() While there is no guarantee that Adobe will continue with their current pricing strategy for new versions of their applications, historically they have and will likely continue to do so as they compete with Apple, Autodesk and Avid. The CS6 upgrade pricing is such that there is not a penalty to skipping a few versions prior to upgrading. If you only need Premiere Pro, then there is not a direct return on investment of having an After Effects or a Photoshop license.Īnother important consideration is how long you plan to use the software. The path to the best answer for you and your business starts with having a clear understanding of what you need to be able to do. It also represents a great strategy for Adobe to get Premiere Pro out to as many video editors as possible. As I will detail below, using even a few Adobe tools will make Creative Cloud a better value than traditional licensing. With Creative Cloud, Adobe has really opened up the creative tools market. In this post I will look at some of the options and how they breakdown in terms of cost and flexability. With the introduction of Adobe Creative Cloud, deciding which licensing path to take is now more complicated than ever before. ![]() Rule #6 The following will be removed at moderator discretion:.Rule #5 No affiliate/referral links or codes.Celebrities are the exception, as long as you respect rule #1. The ultimate RAW conversion quality at 100% isn’t quite there. There are too many places where the response feel of the application is just aggravating. There are a lot of places in the UI where the performance needs to be tweaked. Some were more forgiving, such as James Duncan Davidson, who wrote: For US $500 (Photoshop itself retails for US $649), there is no excuse not to be aware of professional needs like a high-quality sharpen tool, DNG exporting or more basic things like curves, a sampler tool for RGB pixel readings, or retention of EXIF data on output. At this point it is an expensive and questionable alternative to Camera Raw, a free extension to Photoshop, and Adobe’s Bridge which can batch produce better quality images in arguably less time. If could deliver on the promise of being both fast and produce flawless results, it would be the dream package. The program lacked many editing options found in other programs, as Dave Girard wrote at Ars Technica: Then there were the complaints about the tools within Aperture. While Aperture could run on some PowerBooks, Apple’s “recommended system” for the application was a Dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 with 2 GB of RAM and a beefy video card. Apple created a free “Aperture Compatibility Checker” application to help determine if your system met the requirements.Īpple praised Aperture for its speed and performance, but those in the real world often complained that it would grind even the Power Mac G5 into dust when creating thumbnails or rendering RAW files. The specifications for Aperture 1.0 were as steep as the price. If that all sounds like pro-level stuff, it was, and Aperture’s $499 price point reflected that fact. If a user needed to carry out additional editing, Aperture included the ability to round-trip an image to Photoshop and back with just a click. In short, Aperture was designed to let photographers import a mountain of large RAW files, sort them, perform light editing, and then export them to Finder, the web, or prints. ![]() From capture to output, you work directly with your RAW files, never having to first convert them into another format before viewing, adjusting, organizing, or printing them.Īperture included traditional organization tools such as albums and folders, and features like the Light Table allowed photographers to recreate more analog workflows. Aperture set out to fix that, as Apple’s website said:įeaturing a RAW-focused workflow, Aperture makes RAW as easy as JPEG, letting you import, edit, catalog, organize, retouch, publish, and archive your images more effectively and efficiently than ever before. In 2005, they were all but impossible to manage. As you know, RAW images are slower to open and browse, so before Aperture it was difficult to flip through hundreds, or even dozens, of RAW images instantly.Įven here in 2018, RAW files can be difficult to deal with due to their size. It allows fast and fluid sorting and browsing, even with RAW images. It also helps find relevant images out of the tens (or hundreds) of thousands of images in our archives. Ken Rockwell opened his review with this:Īperture is software to help professional photographers select the very best out of hundreds or thousands of similar images. Some may have written off this new program as a Photoshop competitor, but Aperture was really designed to compete with something like Adobe Bridge or later Adobe Lightroom. “What amazed me about Aperture is that you can work directly with RAW files, you can loupe and stack them and it’s almost instantaneous-I suspect that I’m going to stop shooting JPEGs. “Until now, RAW files have taken so long to work with,” said Heinz Kluetmeier, renowned sports photographer whose credits include over 100 Sports Illustrated covers. “Finally, an innovative post production tool that revolutionizes the pro photo workflow from compare and select to retouching to output.” “Aperture is to professional photography what Final Cut Pro is to filmmaking,” said Rob Schoeben, Apple’s vice president of Applications Marketing. The pitch from Apple was pretty straight-forward: And for those needing more than what iPhoto could provide, Apple offered Aperture.Īperture 1.0 was released in fall 2005. ![]() iMovie users could upgrade to Final Cut, while Logic was there waiting for GarageBand users. I think we played on a table like that one with vertical controls. And I cannot see a project for a cocktail table evolving at any time soon :-))). Now, finally, it is there and works just perfectly. But I always hesitated because I wanted a standalone spinner (for reasons stated below), while basically all online instructions relate to integrating a spinner into your overall arcade control panel. We typically used to take the challenge by two, so that after dying, you could relax a bit while the other guy plays, and that worked out quite well.Ī spinner for MAME has always been in my plans simply because of Arkanoid. Guess you’ve been waiting for this, huh? ) I hooked up the power cord to my KGSSHV electrostatic amplifier. It too me much effort to place the power cord behind the rack so it won’t interfere with all the other cords. What I really hate though is the stiff cord which is barely movable. I have never seen a manufacturer putting so much attention to detail and the cable is certainly made to last. In terms of build-quality it is absolutely stunning. Don’t want to repeat all the details, see for yourself in the manufacturer description. I chose this power cable which comes with heavy-duty gold connectors and it uses pure copper cables and lots of fancy ingredients. I think I paid almost a hundred bucks from a third-party retailer. After kicking myself, I went ahead and bought a super-duper brand name audiophile cable that was on sale. Who knows, maybe I would finally reach acoustic nirvana with higher-end cables. Maybe I was completely wrong and I overlooked something. I just wanted to find out what the fuss is all about. So I never really invested in expensive RCA cables or power cords…until recently. Having a technical background, I always laughed about the ridiculous claims cable manufacturers made. |
